I recently worked a case for a bondsman out of maryland and upon finding the skip I found out that he was on home confinement and had been sentenced to a year for another charge. Well I went to home confinement and got a copy of the order which states he has been sentenced and his release date. I faxed it to the bondsman and he said "It takes a couple of weeks to see if they will exonerate the bond" I guess for the court to decide. Is this true or is he trying to give me the slip?

Most likely the Bondsman you are dealing with has to File some motion to the Judge to get off the bond he has on the defendant you located.. sometimes it could take a week or two.. so keep in touch with the bondsman and wait for his answer from the judge's decision.

Ok. I literally did a job for him 2 days before and he paid me no problem. I just thought I would ask.

From my experience, it sounds legit. I would suggest the same "keep in touch with the bondsman and wait...."

So your pay is held until he finds out if his gets off the bond and if not you get nothing.

The bondsman is telling you the truth most probably for the time to file the paperwork.

First off. if you file the motion yourself, the answer is returned to your address so you know the answer first. Second, it is truly providing a service to your client to handle the case through to resolution, and adds value to your services as well as professional experience. But you did not take that approach, so you are having him complete the task, and he is not going to pay you until he finds out if he is exonerated. It will cost him $25.00 to file the exoneration motion and takes about 1-2 weeks to find out, when we are not in the Holiday season, so another week or two may not be out of line, depending on the county. You can go to my website www.BailMD.com and go to the link for court searches. You can read your self in the case minutes if the case has been exonerated or simply go to the court house to see if he filed the motion in the first place. If the file is not available, it means it is in an Administrative Judge's possession and he is ruling on the case.

Best of luck

Scott
