I recently got my certification in Georgia so I'm green. No prior military or police training. I went to an agent for an apprenticeship and he took my criminal history and 7 yr MVR to the Sheriff Dept's he works with. He then told me that none of them would approve me. I have a CCW charge I plead guilty to (misdemeanor) in '02. I also have a DUI in '96 and '02 and a Hit And Run in '99. All those are nolo contendre pleas. I was granted my concealed weapon permit with the same criminal history. I also haven't had any arrests of 'moral turpitude' since '02. Can somebody help me out. I am trying to get into this trade and I am patient. I want to get the proper training and do this right instead of just goin out like some rogue vigilante agent. Is there anyone who can shed some light on this or tell me how I need to pursue this further? It seems like I'm just not getting cooperation from agents. |

Was it felony hit and run? Have you received an expungement on any charges? I would not hire you on account of your criminal record. I believe in second chances, but you have had too many bad "experiences" with the law. In this business we just can't afford to have someone that could be a liability as a part of our team. You need to realize that having your history could make your dealings with LEOs and the legal system tough for you and the persons you work with or for. Good luck to you all the same. Take care. |

If I were you, I would attempt to have my record expunged. It may cost a few hundred or so but it may be worth it. If none of those arrest had convictions, it may be easy to do. Some, actually all of those charges are pretty serious and anyone in their right might would reconsider hiring you for anything. From your record it looks like your an armed drunk who fleas from the police. So that may be what the issue is. |

The moral turpitude arrests can be a bigger problem than some of the others, Especially if they involved females or cash issues. The business already has a "bad" enough image already without being known for more convicted criminals entering it. BTW, nolo contende is entered as a guilty plea. So in the eyes of the law your were convicted of those charges and your record reflects that. |

I have been approved in 19 counties throughout Georgia and do not believe a single one would approve someone with such a record. Expungment is the ONLY possible answer to this.....however, there are cases where a background check will still show charges, even though they have been expunged. Were I still actively working in this industry, I would be very hesitant to risk it with your record. The liability is to great. Were my (and my teams) background ever brought into question.... yours would be the type to destroy a reputation and business. Sorry I couldn't be of any help but that is the way I have seen things run in this neck of the woods. |
