In CA, some local police chiefs still issue them but most defer to the county sheriff. Its all political and depends on which county you live in.

The more liberal the area, the harder to get one.

CA issues exposed permits for certain occupations such as alarm company owners, PPOs, PIs and armed couriers. Those are usually exposed permits but they can also apply for ccws.

Of course judges, das even public defenders can qualify for CCWs. I heard that some S.O.s do not approved ccws for retired LEOs. Just what I heard don't have any personal knowledge.

There is no standards for bail agents or bail recovery agents. So its up to the local sheriff to decide whether to issue for that reason or not.

Well Good Thing H.R. 218 would then apply to any retired LEO if the S.O refused to issue a CCW.. since any Retired LEO can qualify to carry State to State.. now without a CCW. Just the H.R. 218 Gun Permit Card and Police Officer's Retired ID Card.

That is right on the money... I had a case that I worked (while on vacation in Tampa) I took a little "look see" for a fugitive my son had who had some contacts in that area.... I first went to the local LE, as I always do, and in the course of the conversation they ask me if I was carrying a weapon to which I replied that I did have one but it was in my vehicle and not on my person... although LE was extremely helpful in the end game on this search... they did tell me the following...

"You may carry as a private citizen since you have a Virginia CCW but if you are working as a bondsman from out of state, here on a case... you need an additional 'working' permit because you are now engaged in an occupation that requires an entirely different set of qualifications to have that concealed weapon on your person." I might add that I do not know if my DCJS CCW would be honored as my private CCW is... I did show them "both" my permits... and I did not go to jail, so I guess I was in compliance....

Now that was what I was told... whether it is Florida law... I have not verified it but the LE that gave me that info seemed to be an authority... and besides, he was certainly in a position to keep me legal... and I listened...

BTW... Scott, please refrain from using big words like "ad nauseum"... it confused me to the point of being...... uh... nauseated... 8) just say something that old fat redneck people can understand.... like... "it made me want to blow lunch..." or... "I puked in my shoes"... or "I had the Hershey squirts"... or "Montezuma's revenge"... or some other colorful down home saying... but don't go all educated on us.... I do not speak Latin...

I might add also.... I did flunk French I... twice.... mostly cause the girl behind me in class always wore a short dress.... 'merci beaucoup'....

It was mentioned that a particular ammunition was "not plinking rounds," but "top of the line performance rounds." I sympathize with the cost issue, and in fact I usually practice with ball ammo. But, you need to run a least a box or two of the carry ammo through your gun before trusting it. Guns won't run on just anything. And knowing that it worked in someone else's "identical" gun isn't good enough. Use your ammo in your gun.

That reminds me of a story..................

Police are at this lady's house investigating the death of her husband, who appeared to have fallen and struck his head

The lady is quite grateful for the effort put in by the detectives that she had them stay for dinner.

The detectives were quite pleased and left with very full stomachs, as they enjoyed the pot roast the lady had been "thawing" out while the detectives were hard at work.
That's Poe - and I think it was a leg of lamb.

The officer was misinformed, there is no special working permit for Bail Bondsman. The Working permit you are referring too is a Class G Statewide Firearm permit, and is only for P.I.'s and Armed Guards. Bondsman are not including in the Class G License program. The only license a bondsman in Florida can carry under is the regular Concealed Weapon Permit that any regular person can obtain.

you can visit the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services website for more info on The CCW and Class G permits.

Thanks for the info... I know in Virginia, you do need two permits... I have one which I obtained years ago in the county of my residence... and the other from DCJS... is the working one that you have to have if you operate as a bondsman and needs to be renewed and re-qualified every two years... the private permit is not valid if you are working as a bondsman... I suppose the Florida officer had that in mind but apparently as you say, he was misinformed. I might mention that he was not a regular cop, he was attached to the inland waterways or whatever that section is referred to... I don't know the correct name but they were by the inland waterway and had different uniforms but they were armed and were official... and the house that I was watching was a condo on the waterway which is why they were approached.

Yeah the thing is, as I'm sure you already know, is a lot of Police Officers really don't know the laws regarding bondsman. I for one wish bondsman were included in the Class G License program because the license does not have all the restrictions that a CCW permit has like not carrying in certain places, like bars, etc.

But the G License is pretty much the same as Virginia. To qualify you need to take a 28 Hour Course, a Medical Exam, and a Psych Exam and a Back Ground Check. Then every year you have to take a 4 hour course, and qualify at the range to keep it active.

A lot of Bondsman, like myself, Also have there P.I. licenses which in turn allows you to obtain your G License (As a P.I., you can not carry with a regular CCW, you must have a G if your going to carry). So if something happens and the police are called It will look better if your are carrying under your G instead of a CCW permit which does not take any training at all to get, except for watching a video.
