I agree. I took Mr. Harrell's course. Very informative and applicable. Loaded with very good information, especially to someone starting out.

Some good advice posted previously. Luckily (or not depending on your perspective), I'm older, and finishing one career and have the opportuinity to pursue another. I can only imagine how difficult and frustrating it can be for someone young and inexperienced to break into this field. I get frustrated myself, and I am fortunate enough to at least have some related experience some contacts in LE in MN. For me, it's a matter of patience, or the lack of it that drives some of the frustrations. Whether we are experienced, young, old or whatever, we have to be patient, disciplined and focused. Nothing really comes easy, whether it's this business or any other. Good, now I have convinced myself.................................... Wow, dragged out of the archives!
Kitty, if your "Put your money where your mouth is" comment is a challenge for someone to provide you with evidence of their life's work for free, it won't happen, Kudos for the perceived attempt. Knowledge is power. You must practice discernment with what ever you hear/read/see. The people previously mentioned are all excellent resources for information and I have all of their materials, have studied them, learned from them and profited by them. There is no get rich quick scheme for this business, short cuts get you killed, and it is clearly not for everybody.
When you write an introductory letter, one page only, refrain from unearned ranks, titles that violate local as well as Federal laws etc., as they get the cylindrical file immediately, after a laugh of course! Request an appointment, provide a time frame (I would like to speak to you for fifteen minutes) get your presentation down to 12 minutes, if they ask questions and it goes longer, it is their choice. Dress to mirror your targeted client.
Best of luck,
Scott

No kidding Scott. What a blast from the past. I am surprised that LAW did not weigh I mirror Kathy's post. With one difference. I was gifted a "Man In the Box" (all of Rex's material) and I will not borrow any of it out. I am stingy Work smart girl. SkipTracing for? Child Support, Banks for bad debts, to assist a Bail Company as Tech Info for an InHouse Recovery Agent, Tech Info for a PI, as office support for an in the field recovery team ? Lots of avenues . . .

Mr. Duprey,
Please be aware that this industry possesses some of the finest minds ever to be born and with that level of intelligence comes along type "A" personalities, egos, pride, and ufortunately sometimes arrogance and overconfidence.
Not everyone will always get along or agree with each other and obviously differences of opinion will occur. Please also factor in geographical operational differences. The West Coast is extremely different in regards to state laws, BEA policies and procedures from the East Coast.
So the "idiot" you refer to that disagreed with Rex WAS (he is deceased now and obviously cannot speak for himself) a professional, legitimate, BEA on the East Coast.
This is not in any way to take away anything from Rex as he is a very well known and respected West Coast BEA.
