Hey everyone,

I'm very interested in becoming an Bail Recovery Agent but I'm totally lost on the first steps to take. I've been heavy into google looking around for places near where I live (Albany NY) and I can't seem to find any-With the exception of a few in NYC, Which I don't really mind but if I could find something closer, the better :D

Anyhow, So what kinda price am I looking at?
Also...How long is the course and after passing would I be legal?
If there's anyone on here near my area (within 2-3 hours driving) and are willing to help me out, Please by all means leave me a PM or email me at whatarethe0dds@yahoo.com with a number that I can contact you at.

Thanks in advance and have a nice night.

Michael,

I suggest you go to the "Agency Directory" section of this website and look for a BEA in your area. If there isn't one, then you need to go to your local courthouse and get all of the paperwork, fill it out, pay whatever bonds or fees that your state requires and then find out from them who is a state recognized training facility and proceed from there.

I would highly recommend that you avoid training from a group calling themselves "USRB". Do not pay them any money. They make false claims and several of thier graduates are now sitting behind bars.

You also need to check your local state statutes regarding badges, bEA gear, weapons permits, etc. You need to know all of that stuff before setting out on any apprehensions.

I guess there's a company that works out of Amstredam NY which is about 40 mins away from me, I'm gonna give them a call Monday to see if they could give me some direction. Still looking for advice if anyone would like to post it.

Thanks.

Michael NY is a tough state to start off in - one part of the requirement is a 500,000.00 surety bond almost impossible to purchase and many thousands of dollars if you find somebody to sell you that bond--you are better off finding a PI and seeking his guidence about a PI's license-the straight fact is there are presently no licensed bea's in ny--I just confirmed that fact approx two weeks ago with the dept of licensing and dept of insurance both in albany ny - also check out state law section on this forum for more info
