Tony,

Our Walmarts here have plenty of umc 9mm ball ammo in 250 rd packs if you're interested. They're not in as high a demand as the more popular calibres.....

.380, .45, .40, 5.56 NATO (there is a difference between .223 remington vs 5.56 Nato) .308 win, 7.62 x 51 NATO, and 7.62 x 39.

I'm good for 9mm now, thanks.

The Walmarts in the Bay Area stopped selling ammo years ago. We are home to both CA Senators, Boxer and Feinstein big gun banners. That may have someting to do with it.

But, all the other gun shops are very low or out of range ammo.

Maybe it is all going to Mexico along with the "assault weapons" that the drug cartels are buying up.

This ammunition accountability act is must be what is driving the high cost of "self defense" rounds ski high, if you can even find them. Here in Mesa, AZ and the outlying areas of the valley, "self defense " rounds are not to be had unless you have a hook up with someone. All of the area Walmarts and local Gun Shops are out of ammo. I did find some 9mm hard ball ammo at a local shooting range. Not something I would want to use as "duty ammo". But that's about it. I can only hope that the people that are buying ammo by the truck load will sell it for a fair price at the next gun show.

I know that in Southern CA there is a major shortage of ammo also. If you do find a box of 20 "self defense" rounds, the cost is staggering.

Anyone else out there seeing the same trend?

It isn't the act that is driving the market...it is fear...pure and simple...

What kind of ammo do you need and how much of it do you need ?

Fear is exactly right. And these bogus emails that I get on a daily basis is driving the fear, at least a good bit. People get these emails saying BS like " you cant buy ammo after June 29th " and "HR 1022 assault weapons ban has been introduced" and "HR 45 Blair Holt Bill taking all guns away". People get these stupid emails and dont even look to see if they are valid, they just forward them for the gospel. That instills fear and thats causing a big part of the ammo problem right now. It really sucks for people that actually do like to SHOOT on a regular basis.

Just for the record:

The coded ammo thing has been introduced in a handful of states. To my knowlege it hasnt passed anywhere yet. Probably wont. You will still be able to buy ammo after June 29th. Even if it did pass in YOUR state, it wouldnt take effect until late summer or fall.

HR 1022 was introduced in 2007 to try and bring back the assault weapons ban that sunset in 2004. It hasnt been introduced since.

HR 45 is introduced, but has no co sponsors and has not moved anywhere. That goofy bastard that introduced it has done so each session for the last several years. Its not going anywhere.

Do us all a favor. If you get these or other emails, either do a litte research before forwarding or posting, or just delete the damned things. With the invention of the internet, thank you Mr. Gore  , its not too hard to look up proposed laws. The person you forward these things to just might take it for gospel, since it came from you.
